For hardcore gamers out there, Gateway has come up with yet another offering in the form of the Gateway P-7808u FX. Boasting performance that reportedly shatters expectations, the Gateway P-7808u is touted to be one of the models that can give an unbelievable and satisfactory gaming experience to any owner that is able to get their hands on one.
| Specifications | |
| Processor | 2GHz Core 2 Quad |
| Video | NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS |
| Memory | 4GB GDDR3 |
| Hard drive space | 500GB |
| Display | 17-inch Liquid Crystal Display |

Pros
Gateway has provided the P-7808u with a powerful Quad-Core laptop processor. This makes for very powerful processing. The P-7808u can zip through the entire Windows boot-up process in barely a minute, and this is remarkable considering that it is powered by the heavy Windows Vista operating system. The system also has a hard drive that is capable of 5,400 RPM, giving the P-7808u fast data transfer of 23.6 Megabits per second.
The P-7808u has an edge with regards to graphics processing due to its built-in Nvidia GeForce 9800M graphics card. It is capable of outputting high frame rates in several graphics-intense games; hence resulting in a detail-rich display. This means that you can have a highly realistic gaming environment to feast your eyes on.
Another strong point of the P-7808u package is its battery life. Unlike others in its class, the P-7808u can give the user almost 4 hours of battery life. This means that users can have a lot more time of use unplugged, a handy feature when it comes to traveling.
Cons
While there may only be a few shortcomings to the entire P-7808u FX package, it has a weak point in two crucial elements: audio and display. The P-7808u’s glossy liquid crystal display acts like a CRT screen by reflecting a lot of light. Although the LCD has excellent color reproduction, it also has a 45-degree limit to vision. Looking at the screen past that angle will make the user see distorted color in the pictures.
Audio is also very weak as well. Even if you crank up the volume to full, some audio details like whispers and footsteps can barely be heard which makes for a tragic disadvantage in both gaming and movies. If you want to hear the full range of the movie or game’s audio, you’d have to wear headphones or plug in a powerful external speaker.
The built-in webcam also has a weakness in rendering video output as well. Skin tones are not as realistic. This isn’t ideal especially when participating in video conferences.
Conclusion
All in all, the P-7808u is a very powerful gaming laptop. Graphics are superb; the processing is unparalleled which more than makes up for its weaknesses in the audio and display aspects. While some people may have complaints about the limited viewing angles and the weak audio, these fallbacks are decidedly minor and do not degrade the P-7808u’s performance as a gaming platform in any way.
