The Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds claims to have some of the best features and capabilities in computer history, but it also comes with a hefty price tag. In return, what can one expect?

Pros

To compensate for its very expensive pricing, Lenovo has packed this laptop with numerous amazing features worthy of the investment. The most striking feature of this quad core laptop is its dual-screen capability. The two screens option is why it has “ds” tag. There is a single screen variant of the W700 but then again, why settle for that when you can have this?

The display capabilities of the W700ds are also excellent. Colors are amazingly vibrant. In fact, the W700ds covers 72% of the colors in Adobe’s RGB space. This is a great feature to have, as you can watch movies or view pictures with greater color quality.

One thing that most users look for in a laptop is comfort, and that is what this ThinkPad has in store for them. The keyboard is terrific; it is very responsive and requires less effort to press.

The W700ds also includes a digitizer, making the W700ds a very handy tool for graphic designers and artists alike. With the digitizer, tasks like drawing digital art is now easy for users only need a pen – included with the laptop – and art skills. Items like digital signatures for documents can now be produced easily as well.

Cons

Surprisingly, the greatest weakness of the W700ds is the secondary display panel. Slightly smaller than the primary monitor, it also lacks the capabilities of the main screen especially the color gamut. This is indeed a disappointing fact, as users will certainly wonder what the point is for having an extended display if it isn’t up to par with the main monitor. The secondary display though can still find use especially as a docking area for tools while the main monitor serves as the workspace.

While the digitizer is certainly useful, its pen is not all that wonderful. It is very small, making it somewhat difficult to use by people with huge hands. In fact, you’d be better off buying a separate stylus that you feel would work more for you rather than rely on the W700ds’s default pen.

You would also probably find a reason to gripe about the touchpad. Lenovo’s designers have decided to give this otherwise wonderful laptop with a very small touchpad area, which would certainly take time to get used to.

Conclusion

All in all, the price tag for a W700ds is immaterial if compared to the range of features that it offers the user. The disadvantages are certainly minimal, and don’t take much from the appreciation that one will surely build for the laptop after using it for some time. For graphic designers and other professionals who require performance from a unit, the W700ds is a good buy.
