Pros
The P79003FX is another powerful laptop from Gateway. Its platform is obviously geared for users who need raw processing power and graphics capabilities.
Beefed up with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 processor, this neat little machine is apparently poised to give these people what they need for their activities… and perhaps even more. Just like most Quad Core laptops out there, Gateway has stuffed this gaming platform with a solid 4-Gigabyte memory.
Of course, gamers also need a lot of space for their programs to be installed. Plus, they would also appreciate to have sufficient space for movies and audio. Hence, Gateway decided to give the P79003FX a fat hard drive capacity of 500 Gigabytes, more than enough to accommodate the filing needs of any avid gamer or audacious downloader. It also has an option for an additional 500-gigabyte hard drive to be installed.
The P79003FX laptop also features connectivity that will allow a user to plug it into a High-Definition TV. This means that, when needed, any HD content found in the system’s memory can be rigged for display in an HDTV for true high-definition output. Viewing HD movies has never been this enjoyable. Imagine coupling the video processing power of the P79003FX with the true HD output of an HDTV. The result would simply be awesome.
The P79003FX also comes with a decently sized 17-inch screen, making it ideal for gamers who undeniably appreciate every detail in the graphics display. The experience is similar to playing on a desktop.
Cons
The P79003FX has an excellent laptop and it shows in its performance but it has a relatively short battery life. While the P79003FX is only capable of running for up to 3 hours unplugged, Gateway’s other gaming platform, P-7808u FX, has about an hour more. This is also considerably short as compared to another platform produced by Gateway’s mother company Acer: the Acer Aspire 8930G-7665, which is capable of a 7-hour run without being plugged to a power socket.
While its LCD screen is certainly one of its strong points, it is also inferior compared to other Gateway or Acer models as well as its competition. The Asus G71 Quad Core, for example, can accommodate a resolution of 1920×1200 on the same size of screen. The P79003FX can only produce a resolution of 1440×900.
Conclusion
With regards to specs and performance, a lot of gamers will certainly appreciate the power of the P79003FX laptop. The connectivity to an HDTV is certainly a very welcome feature, and one that can be found in very few notebooks as of today. While the battery life could be an issue for many, some gamers might not mind not being able to work unplugged for prolonged periods of time. In addition, the resolution issue would be considered a minor problem by many gamers. The verdict: the P79003FX is a good buy for both gamers and heavy-duty laptop users out there.
