The Asus UX30 is one of the latest models introduced by Asus, also known as the mother of the mini-netbooks due to its innovation with the Asus EEE PC series. This time, Asus debuts a UX series of ultra-thin laptops with features that are actually bigger than itself.

The Asus UX30 is the smaller of the two UX series laptops. It only has a 0.9 inch profile, also making it one of the thinnest there are in the market. True to Asus’ intent, the UX30 makes for a good traveling companion for the writer, the businessman and the average computer user. Furthering its mobility, the UX30’s weight is proportionate to its size. You can carry around and it will feel almost like carrying only a few books in your carrying case.

You may wonder how the UX30 has been made to be so thin and not compromise its functionalities and features. The answer to that lies in Intel’s Consumer Ultra Low Voltage processors. These processors are designed to consume as low an energy profile as possible; this way, it won’t emit a lot of heat. Older processors require space to allow air and heat to circulate without damaging the components inside. Since the CULV processors consume very little energy, the thin profile you see on the UX30 has since been made possible.

As for performance, the UX30 is equipped with either an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU9400 or the Core™ Solo Processor SU3500 both of which are running in 1.4 Gigahertz. This power is more than enough to address and enable the laptop to process a good number of processes without lagging or hanging up. The processor is backed up by a fat memory capacity. The UX30 can be installed with up to 4 gigabytes of random access memory.

The UX30 has a 13-inch LCD screen with an adequate resolution of 1366×768. Multi-tasking is a piece of cake for this little baby. With a big enough resolution, you can open a window of a document you are currently editing while putting it side by side with a window of another document you are referring from. You can also choose to put in a window of a media player as well.

Pros:

We particularly like the thinness and the light weight of the UX30. Plus, the nice resolution of the LCD screen is a perfect tool for multi-tasking, a necessity in today’s busy world where one has to finish editing or writing important documents within a tight deadline.

Cons:

The UX30 is not a platform for gaming, which may be disappointing for those who are expecting a laptop that will allow them to play the newest games in town. They can still choose the older games if they insist, however.

Conclusion:

For all its raw power, the UX30 is poised to answer the needs of the casual computer user as well as businesspersons looking for a dependable laptop to perform business processes with. The only thing that could set it back is its inability to process 3D-based games and applications, but it excels in other uses. This unit would be well-worth the price you pay for it, depending on what you want to do with it.
