Compaq-Presario-CQ60-200[1]

The top of the line in the HP Compaq Presario series is the HP Compaq Presario CQ60. The HP Compaq Presario CQ60 is the only one out of three that has a dedicated integrated graphics card. It has been endowed with a 256 MB Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS video processor. This gives the CQ60 a better ability at processing graphics compared to its smaller brothers, although it is still quite limited with 256 megabytes of video ram.

The CQ60 also has the largest screens among the three HP Compaq Presario CQ models. While the CQ20 and the CQ40 has 12.1 and 14 inches screens, respectively, the CQ60 has a 16-inch LCD screen for its display.

That’s where the differences end, however. In other things, the CQ60 share a lot in common with its brothers. For example, it has the Intel Centrino P7350 Core 2 Duo processor in its core, running at the same speed its siblings do: 2 gigahertz. It is supported by the same amount of random access memory found in the other two CQ models: 2 gigabytes. You can multi-task easily with this laptop, a feat coupled with its improved graphics capabilities that will leave you happy with the CQ60.

In order for you to accommodate most of your files without having to burn a backup, the CQ60 is also equipped with a 250-gigabyte hard disk space. There’s more than enough space for you to store HD movies, TV shows, games, music and your important documents. You can also view DVD movies with its optical drive. As if the 16-inch screen is not enough for viewing movie files, you can choose to hook up the CQ60 to an HD TV for a larger display via its HDMI port.

The CQ60 has a lot of connectivity features. First, you have a trio of USB ports. There are also ports for useful data communication like Bluetooth, Infrared and a 56 kbps modem. It is capable of running Wireless local area networks under the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n standards. There is also a webcam, and an ExpressCard slot for connecting to external hard drives for added storage space.

Although a little heavier than its fellow CQ laptops, the HP Compaq Presario CQ60 is still quite light with only 2.75 kilograms for its weight.

Cnet pegs the CQ60 at the US$1000 price range.

SPECS

Processor: 2 GHz Intel Centrino P7350 Core 2 Duo

Memory: 2 gigabytes

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9200 GS

Hard disk space: 250 gigabytes

Screen: 16 inches

Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium edition

PROS

Unlike its two mates on the CQ line, the HP Compaq Presario CQ60 has a dedicated graphics processor. You can play some games with the CQ60, making the unit ideal for the light gamers. Hardcore gamers, however, would need at least 512 MB of VRAM which the CQ60 seriously lacks. It does offer better performance because the graphics does not share memory with the processor.

Just like its siblings, the CQ60 offers good processing through its 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. There is more than enough memory to be used in processing programs with its 2 GB of RAM.

CONS

While it does have its own graphics card, the 256 megabyte video memory still limits the user to which games he can play with the CQ60. Newer games today require at least 512 MB of VRAM (others even go to a whopping 1 GB of VRAM) thus limiting the user to games that are older and lighter.

CONCLUSION

The CQ60 does offer a better experience with its 256 MB graphics card, but it is not enough to qualify as a desktop replacement for hardcore gamers. It is a consolation, however, that the CQ60 works a little faster because the memory has been freed from the graphics side.

For those seeking light gaming and good processing performance, the CQ60 worth be worth the price they pay for it.
