Asus X77 – Review

Asus got a gaming laptop on the house – the awaited Asus X77.  The Asus X77 is one of the first laptops in Asus’ cache that carries two very powerful components – the Intel Core i5 processor and the ATI Mobility Radeon 5730.

 

As a gaming laptop, the Asus X77 is expected to unleash a smooth and seamless performance even when running hardcore and memory-hungry games.  Well, the Asus X77 could very well do so, thanks to its processor/memory combo.

 

The Asus X77 is powered by the Intel Core i5-430M that runs on a clock speed of 2.26 MHz.  However, when the operations need it, the Intel Core i5-430M could raise the tempo to 2.53 GHz by using the Intel’s Turbo Boost technology.  The Intel Core i5-430M could handle four threads at once, resulting to a faster and more powerful performance.   The Intel Core i5 has 3 MB Level 3 Cache.

 

The Core i5 in the Asus X77 is backed by up to 4 GB of RAM.  This amount of memory is especially needed for gaming platforms since heavy and hardcore programs need a lot of RAM when running.  For hardcore games that siphons out lots of memory, Asus provided the Asus X77 with a dedicated graphics card in ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, with a DDR3 memory similar to what the Asus GPUs 5750 and 5770.  With this combo, one could take his favorite hardcore 3D games anywhere without experiencing lags and hitches during gameplay.

 

The Asus X77 comes with a large 17.3-inch liquid crystal display that carries a 1600 x 900 resolution and a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9.  Gamers would be very delighted that they could play their favorite games in such a large screen not to mention powered by core i5 notebook processor.

 

This gaming laptop could also connect to an external HD monitor as it has an HDMI video output.

 

The Asus X77 could carry up to 1 TB of digital files, due to its dual hard drive system.  One could load the Asus X77 with two hard drives of 500 GB each. This laptop has a very large storage space for any large file – HD movies, music and games.  The Asus X77 could as well be dubbed as a desktop replacement with all these potent specs in place.

 

Estimates show that the Asus X77 would cost at around $1400 and up.

PROS

 

Speed and power defines the Asus X77.  The Intel Core i5 embedded in this laptop surely provides the needed performance for optimum gaming experience, even on the run.  Providing more than enough support is a large amount of memory, including from the dedicated graphics in ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730.

 

Aside from being a gaming platform, the Asus X77 could as well substitute as a multimedia laptop. Its display and resolution are HD ready and could connect into an external HD monitor with its HDMI port.  Plus, the Asus X77 could store a very large amount of files with its 1 TB hard disk.

CONCLUSION

 

The Asus X77 surely got what it takes to be a gaming laptop.  It has the neck-breaking speed and awesome power, thanks to the Intel Core i5 processor that is running its system.  The Asus X77 performs smoothly even when playing hardcore games due to its large RAM as well as a highly potent GPU.  It also could contain large number of files.  What more can one ask for? Having the Asus X77 is surely worth one’s money.
