With the G60J, Asus aims to take gaming experience to a level higher by introducing mobility features to your common gaming desktops. With these challenge on the mind, Asus introduced two gaming laptops that happen to carry the latest processing technology by Intel – the Asus G60J and the Asus G51J.
PC gaming is often associated with desktops since it is easy to fit several high-end components into a tower casing. But it is quite a hurdle if we talk about taking gaming onto the road. It would be hard to cramp powerful components in a laptop box. Positioned as gaming laptops, the Asus G60J and the Asus G51J contain high-end specs that would surely take one’s gaming experience away from home into another dimension.
How should gaming laptops be made? Well, an undisputed answer is awesome performance. To ensure that the Asus G60J and the Asus G51J accomplish heavy hardcore tasks, Asus fitted these gaming laptops with Intel’s latest Core i7 technology.
The Asus G60J is powered by Intel’s Core i7 720QM processor, which clocks at 1.6 GHz and has Turbo Boost speed of 2.80 GHz, or the 820QM processor, which runs at a clock speed of 1.73 GHz and can be turbo boosted to 3.06 GHz. Providing support is an army of read access memory of at least 2 GB and at most 4 GB.
One of the major concerns for a gaming laptop is its ability to render heavy and memory-hungry graphics, especially those 3D ones. Asus was able to address that concern by loading the Asus G60J with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M graphics card. This video card is loaded with 1 GB of VRAM, which ensures uncompromised rendering of heavy graphics. As a result, even hardcore games can be played with graphic ease with the Asus G60J.
Aside from these monster specs, the Asus G60J boasts of a large storage space. Asus designed the G60J to be loaded with 500 GB of SATA hard disk, which spins at 7,200 per minute. Well, make that two 500 GB, and the Asus G60J actually has 1 TB of storage space. That is more than enough to store those HD files as well music and other multimedia.
The Asus G60J also comes with a Blu-Ray-DVD combo optical drive that allows the user to play HD multimedia in Blu-Ray discs and burn files in DVD format. This drive is also useful when installing your favorite games.
To add to a monstrous gaming experience, Asus spiced up the G60J with high-end audio speakers in Altec Lansing. Say goodbye to mediocre audio experience with this brand of speakers.
This gaming laptop’s 16-inch display, however, comes with a 1366 x 768 native resolution, which is for gamers’ perspective is too low. Even HD multimedia fanatics would cry out foul for having a display that falls short of the full 1080p HD resolution.
The Asus G60J is definitely one of the most portable gaming laptops around. A weight of 3.3 kg may be a tad heavy, but for a mobile gamer, it is quite light since other gaming laptops could weigh as much as double. The Asus G60J has a box dimension of 37.5 x 26.5 x 4.1 cm.
