Asus was one of the first laptop manufacturers that used Intel’s newest processing technology, the Intel Core i7. Its first model to have the advanced mobile computing technology is no other than the Asus M60J.

 

The Asus M60J is a multimedia laptop.  It is designed to cater to the needs of multimedia users who cannot get enough of it at home.  Even while traveling or away from home, multimedia addicts could still access their favorite movies or music.

 

What does it take to be a multimedia laptop? First, it has to have the ability to process heavy applications and render heavy graphics at viewing pleasure.  Second, it must be capable of storing as much digital files as it could, especially today that HD multimedia files are becoming a trend.  The third factor would be the ability to lock into a certain feature without typing in so many keys.

 

The Asus M60J is powered by Intel’s Core i7 laptops processor, with a choice between 820QM, which runs at a speed of 1.73 GHz, and 720QM, which clocks at 1.6 GHz.  This thinking general is backed by up to 4 GB of memory, which ensures smooth performance even when playing hardcore games or editing heavy graphics.  As for the graphics, the Asus M60J promises a powerful performance with its NVIDIA GeForce GT240M graphics card that has a gigabyte of video memory at hand.  With these performance specs at disposal, the Asus M60J sure is a behemoth among multimedia laptops.

 

What frustrates a multimedia freak more than knowing that the next digital file (a HD one) he is downloading cannot be saved because of lack of space? There really isn’t many that could be more exasperating than that. However, the Asus M60J could store up to 1 TB of digital files into its cramped chassis, making your worries a thing of the past. The Asus M60J is a dual hard drive multimedia laptop with options ranging from 500 GB, 320 GB, and 250 GB. 

 

Finally, the Asus M60J comes with an array of hot keys that could be used as shortcuts to certain multimedia functions.  With these hot keys, there is no need to fully open a certain application just to view a certain multimedia file.

 

The Asus M60J also comes with an optical drive that has DVD playback and burning capabilities.  One may also opt to load his Asus M60J with a Blu-Ray drive for full HD experience. 

 

This multimedia laptop sports a 16-inch display with 1366 x 768 native resolution.  Having a dimension of 37.5 x 26.5 x 3.43~4.06 cm, the Asus M60J weighs 3.3 kg.

Pros

The main strength of the Asus M60J lies on it being an ideal laptop for multimedia needs. It has a very powerful processor, lots of memory, dedicated graphics, HD-ready display, a huge storage space, and an optical drive.

 

The Asus M60J comes with Altec Lansing speakers that would surely take the audio experience to another level.

 

Cons

As powerful as it is, the Asus M60J cannot stay long on the battlefield. Its powerful specs suck out battery power quickly.  The Asus M60J could only bring be useful for around two hours when unplugged.  That’s barely enough for viewing a short movie.

 

Conclusion

Except for the fact that the Asus M60J could last for just around two hours, this mobile PC is one of the ideal multimedia laptops.  Definitely one of the best buys one could have.
