Lenovo G550 – 29586SU

Posted on January 5th, 2011 | by bea

lenovog550grey

Lenovo’s relatively new Essential line of laptops is especially designed for light- to medium-weight computing jobs. Another offering of Lenovo’s Essential line is the Lenovo G550 –  29586SU notebook, which is a bit  superior to the Lenovo G550 – 295R6U. Let’s see how this is a cut above the Lenovo G550 – 295R6U:

Let’s start with the price tag. The Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU is priced at a very reasonable $499.00. This laptop is powered by the Intel® Core™ Duo T4400 processor with a RAM of 4 GB 1066MHz. Since this is a newly-released model, the Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 operating system is integrated in the Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU. Storage is one plus point in this laptop with a staggering 320GB of hard disk space! Now that’s really something in a value laptop.

Even if this is just an average laptop, the media and video features are still a cut above the rest with its 15.6″ WXGA LED Backlight TFT monitor with a resolution of 1366 x 768, which is standard in most HD devices. However, the Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU only has the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M integrated graphics card, which is kind of a sore point for hardcore gamers.

Other basic features in this model include a DVD Recordable (dual layer) optical drive, a Broadcom 11b/g Wi-Fi wireless network card, and a six-cell Lithium-Ion battery. This model’s pointing device is the Industry Standard Touchpad, which is different from the touchpads of the IdeaPad and ThinkPad models. However, the Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU has its own numeric keypad, which is a rarity in most laptops. Like all models of the Essential line, this model does not have a fingerprint reader.

Its reasonable price tag means there are also missing features. The Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU does not have a multi-touch touch pad, a MapLife with GPS capability, Dolby® Audio, and hard drive protection. This laptop is indeed intended for small-business owners, the average media watcher, the average computer user, and the average Internet browser.

SPECS AVAILABLE OPTIONS
CPU Intel® Core™ Duo T4400 ( 2.20GHz 800MHz 1MB )
RAM 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
Screen Size 15.6 ” WXGA LED Backlight TFT 1366×768
Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Battery 6 Cell Lithium-Ion
Graphics Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M

PROS

Performance meets value. This is what Lenovo was thinking of when it designed the Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU. This model has advanced multi-media features, stylish design, clear widescreen displays, full-sized ergonomic keyboards, and hassle-free connectivity and security.

CONS

Just like any laptop in Lenovo’s Essential line, the Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU does not offer much beyond the average media and computing job. Gamers will not be impressed with this unit due to the integrated graphics card and there are also features of the IdeaPad and ThinkPad models that are not standard in this Essential model.

CONCLUSION

The Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU is ideal for the average computer user, the average movie or video watcher, and the small businessman who is not into heavy traveling. However, this unit is not ideal for the hardcore gamer, the big shot multi-media editor, or the frequent traveler. However, this baby is still not to be frowned upon with its 15.6″ screen, its large storage capacity, and its powerful processor. So, check out the Lenovo G550 – Grey – 29586SU and be captivated by its capabilities.

Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU

Posted on December 19th, 2010 | by bea

Lenovo-G450-1[1]

Coming from the Essential family of business laptops from Lenovo, the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU , was compared in the Lenovo G450 review and has all the needed features that one can require from a business laptop… and perhaps a bit more.

First off, the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU has a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor running its processes behind the scenes. The Core 2 Duo CPU is clocked at speed of 2.1 GHz with a cache size of 1 megabyte. This ensures a powerful performance enough to guarantee speedy start-up and loading of programs, a feature that is essential for the businessmen or even the students that needs to finish a lot of work in as short a time as possible. This performance is further ensured by a state-of-the art DDR3 memory space of 4 gigabytes.

Hard disk space is a very important part of every laptop. Businessmen, gamers and even average users need a lot of it to store vital information. The Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU guarantees more than enough space for those important files for everyone. With a hard disk space of a whopping 320 gigabytes, you can store a lot of files including music, movies and important documents without the need to back up files frequently.

If there is a need to make file backups, you can do so via the DVD-R/RW optical drive included with the laptop. DVDs can burn more amounts of data into itself, and the dual layer disc can hold twice than the ordinary 4.7-gigabyte DVDs. Add to that, you can watch your favorite DVD movies using the optical drive.

Being a business laptop, the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU’s graphics are powered by an integrated Intel X4500 Graphics Media Accelerator. This means that the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU is unable to process heavy graphics and, along with it, games. You can still view HD content and watch movies just fine, though. Display is facilitated by a 14-inch LCD screen with a native resolution of 1366×768 and an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Connectivity ports for the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU include: USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet/RJ-45 port, a VGA output connector, as well as slots for Express Card 34, a card reader that can read SD, xD Picture, and MMC cards and a memory stick.

Cnet estimates the price range for the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU starting at $599.

SPECS:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile 2.1 GHz
Memory: 4 gigabytes DDR3
Battery life: 5 hours
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Premium
Display: 14-inch 1366×768 LCD
Hard drive: 320 gigabytes
Graphics: Integrated Intel GMA X4500

PROS

The Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU is a very powerful machine. Its 2.1 GHz processor with the Intel Core 2 Duo technology together with its 4-gigabyte of RAM is enough to ensure a smooth operation even when multitasking between memory hungry programs.

This laptop has a very decent battery life of 5 hours as well.

CONS

The Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU cannot process heavy graphics, which could disappoint some users. With its integrated Intel GMA X4500, you cannot expect this laptop to perform well for gamers and graphics-heavy applications.

CONCLUSION

All in all, for a business laptop, the Lenovo G450 – 2949CHU performs well for its class. There’s nothing more you could possibly demand from a 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a 4-gigabyte RAM bank and 320 gigabytes of physical memory.

Lenovo G550 – 29586TU – Review

Posted on March 17th, 2010 | by admin

633927425005530000lenovo-g550-hq[1]

Coming from a line of business laptops, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU is poised to deliver a performance tailored specifically for that intent.

First, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU is similar to the other members of the family. Take a look at this Lenovo G550 Review. It has a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor. This CPU is clocked to be running at a speed of 2.20 GHz with a bus speed of 800 MHz. Its cache is also sized at 2 megabytes. This is the making of a laptop with exceptional performance. Plus, the processor is backed up by an adequately sized memory of 4 gigabytes to make sure that the computer has enough memory to use when processing a lot of programs. This is to avoid glitches and hang ups that are common to older processors with small amounts of random access memory.

Completing its features, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU has a 14-inch LCD screen equipped with a light emitting diode backlight system that eliminates as much as possible the annoying glare caused by having a light source directly behind the user. Reflections are minimized by the backlight as well.

Lastly, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU has a very large hard disk space capacity at 320 gigabytes. This space allows you to store more of your files as well as download large-size movies in HD format so you can enjoy true high-definition viewing with your PC. The Lenovo G550 – 29586TU also sports a DVD-Writer that supports burning unto dual layer discs.

Just like its siblings, however, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU is equipped with an integrated Intel GMA 4500M: an on-board graphics processor that severely limits the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU from accommodating heavier and more detailed graphics.

The Lenovo G550 – 29586TU’s price range is pegged at $650 and higher, though offers exist that sell at $150 off the stated price.

SPECS

Processor:  Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T6600 ( 2.20GHz 800MHz 2MB )

Operating system:  Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64

Graphics:  Intel GMA 4500M

Memory:  4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz

Display:   15.6 ” WXGA LED Backlight TFT 1366×768

Hard disk space: 320GB 5400

PROS

The Lenovo G550 – 29586TU has a powerful processor at 2.20 GHz, more than enough for what is needed to multitask. The Lenovo G550 – 29586TU also has a very fat hard disk space with its 320 gigabyte hard disk drive. This combination ensures you that there will be little to no hang ups and lags at all when running multiple programs with this laptop.

CONS

Just like most of the Lenovo Essential laptops, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU suffers from a lack of a dedicated graphics card that will allow it to process heavier graphics like the ones in the newer games. This makes it unappealing to those that want to use it for games aside from normal computing usage.

CONCLUSION

While it can be handicapped in the graphics part, the Lenovo G550 – 29586TU is nevertheless able to deliver on what it is supposed to do: a laptop designed for everyday and business usage where graphics processing requirements are only minimal. Of course, for those who are into hardcore gaming, this unit is certainly not the one for you.

Lenovo-G550-Back[1]

In addition to its ThinkPad and IdeaPad lines, Lenovo is now introducing the affordable G Series laptops. An offering of the G Series line is the Lenovo G550 – 2958R6U. With an acceptable price of $449.00, one might wonder what the Lenovo G550 – 2958R6U has to offer. This Lenovo model allows the user to perform the average computing job. However, unlike the ThinkPad and IdeaPad models, the Lenovo G550 – 2958R6U does not have the finger print reader.

As this is merely for the basic computing and media function, the Lenovo G550 – 2958R6U does not have Dolby® Audio, a multi-touch touchpad, a MapLife with GPS capability, hard drive protection, among others. Thus, this model of Lenovo Essential Family is acceptable for home use or for the budding entrepreneur.

Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU – Review

Posted on March 14th, 2010 | by admin

Lenovo G550 - 2958HHU

One of a line of business laptops published under the Lenovo Essential family, the Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU has a promising set of features designed solely for the busy entrepreneur and perhaps students who are always rushing to meet deadlines with reports and other literature required for their curriculum.

To ensure seamless operation and processing, Lenovo has equipped the Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU with a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processor clocked at a speed of 2.2 GHz. Powerful as it is, it would need a lot of memory in order to efficiently handle a lot of tasks. To address that, the Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU is armed with a fat memory bank. You get an initial RAM of 2 gigabytes with your purchase, but you have the option to upgrade it to 4 gigabytes at most. The memory bank is a DDR3 RAM, the newest on the line.

The Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU has a 15.6 inches LCD screen. This size is more than adequate for the average user. Plus, the screen has a native resolution of 1366×768. The screen is glossy, but it also has a backlight provided by light-emitting diodes so glare from having a light source behind the user (i.e. sunlight) is not a problem when using the Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU. The LCD display also has a native 16:9 aspect ratio, eliminating black lines when viewing DVD movies and movie files on the computer.

For any computer user, adequate hard disk space is always a prime concern. But with the Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU, you can have as much space as you need for your important files as well as some other things that you might want to store like music, movies, games, and other files. The Lenovo G550 – 2958HHU has 160 gigabytes of hard disk space.

Lenovo G450 – 2949CGU – Review

Posted on March 14th, 2010 | by admin

Lenovo G450 - 2949CGU

Lenovo has outdone  itself with the Lenovo G450 – 2949CGU. This laptop has all the makings of being an excellent replacement or alternate to a desktop PC.

First, it is armed with the technology of Intel’s Core 2 Duo processors. The Lenovo G450 – 2949CGU, in particular, has a processor clocked at a speed of 2.20 GHz. To make sure that there are no problems while the system processes memory hungry programs, Lenovo has given the laptop a whopping 4-gigabyte capacity for random access memory. Memory, after all, is a very important part of a computer’s functioning. When it processes a lot of information, the computer needs memory to keep operating. If it runs out of memory, it will be forced to trade memory packets from one program to another thus causing lags in the system.

Another remarkable feature of the Lenovo G450 – 2949CGU is the Nvidia Geforce graphics card it has on its chipset. This makes it an ideal platform for gaming and multimedia. The Nvidia GeForce G210M graphics card has a video memory of 512 megabytes, making it powerful enough to process heavier graphics for both games and movie editing. You can do a lot of things with the Lenovo G450 – 2949CGU, same thing as you would a desktop PC.

Worried about hard disk space? Everyone does, but with the Lenovo G450 – 2949CGU you shouldn’t have to think about it. Lenovo has given this laptop a very fat space for physical memory. 320 gigabytes is already enough for whatever needs that you may have: whether you’re an active downloader of music and movies, a gamer, or a businessman. You can put in a lot of files into your computer and still have enough space for more to come.
