From accomplished laptop maker Acer comes another addition to the Travelmate Series: the Acer Travelmate 6293.

Just like its predecessors, the Acer Travelmate 6293 is designed as a business laptop first and general computer users laptop second. The big question really is whether the average entrepreneur can expect satisfactory performance and output from the Travelmate 6293.

This article will show the features, the strong points and the shortcomings of the Travelmate 6293. We will also give you our opinion on whether the 6293 could be considered a good buy.

PROS:

At first glance, you can tell that the 6293 is indeed a powerful beast. It is operated by an Intel Core 2 Duo technology processor (you have a choice between the P8700 and the P8600) supported by up to 4 gigabytes of random access memory. This shows its capability to process programs faster with enough room to spare, as speed and access is of ultimate importance to those in business.

Data sharing and connectivity are two factors where the 6293 has an edge. Armed with three USB ports, the owner is not only able to plug in more than one external flash drives for file sharing, he can also use the extra ports to put in external keyboards or mouse.

Another good thing about the 6293 is that it’s very light. This makes carrying easier and more convenient for the businessman. The Travelmate 6293 weighs only 4.7 pounds or 2.1 kilograms.

Battery life is also not a problem with the 6293. The configuration may vary but the 6293’s batteries can last up to 7 hours of optimal usage. When heavy applications are running, the 6293 is able to last for at 4.5 hours on six-cell batteries.

CONS:

One thing that can make the 6293 difficult to use would be its LCD screen. At 12 inches, it has the smallest screen in the lineup of Travelmate laptops. Even though Acer has given it a highly detailed resolution of 1280×800, some users may find it difficult to view such a very small screen.

Another disadvantage that the 6293 has in common with other fellow Travelmate laptops is its low graphics processing power. Armed with only an integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD processor, the 6293 is quite weak at processing heavy duty graphics which is what the latest games are using. Truly, the 6293 is at its best processing business applications.

CONCLUSION

The 6293 is poised to function smoothly for a thriving business, although it is seriously hindered by a small screen. However, it does give the user the capability to multi-task with ease. Its high resolution does allow the user to stack up separate windows and view them simultaneously.

The verdict: the 6293 is suited for business use only. If you want to use it for gaming, it’s best to stick to the older games rather than the new ones because its integrated graphics card cannot process them.

All in all, for the business user, the 6293 is a good catch.
